VEGGEN
VEGGEN er eit utstillingsprosjekt av kunsthandverkarane Siri Skjerve og Toril Redalen, på KRAFT i perioden 7. mai til 23. august.
Prosjektet tek utgangspunkt i Marlen Haushofer sin roman Veggen frå 1963, der ei kvinne vert isolert frå omverda av ein usynleg, ugjennomtrengjeleg vegg. Innanfor eit avgrensa landskap må ho etablere ein ny kvardag, og naudsynte handlingar knytt til arbeid, omsorg, reparasjon og repetisjon vert grunnleggjande vilkår.
I VEGGEN vert veggen som fysisk, sosial og eksistensiell struktur utforska gjennom fem kunstnarskap; Siri Skjerve, Toril Redalen, samt inviterte kunstnarar Rita Marhaug, Tobias Aputsiaq Prytz og Jack O’Flynn.
I utstillinga vert det bygd eit eige rom, der kunstnarane under opningstidene til KRAFT vil arbeide og opphalde seg i kvar sine periodar. Den eine veggen til dette rommet er konstruert slik at publikum får innsyn. Kunstnarane forheld seg til eit lager med enkle materiale og verktøy. Undervegs i opphaldet vil spor, materiale og tankar kunstnarane gjer seg samlast saman som ein slags fysisk katalog i Hvelvet på KRAFT. Slik vert utstillinga forma i ein organisk prosess i sanntid, der kvar kunstnar responderer på og forheld seg til det å vere aleine og isolert, men samstundes sterkt til stades, synleg og tett på publikum.
I VEGGEN er utstilling, produksjon og montering i éin og same prosess. Kunstnarane er inviterte grunna deira evne til å arbeide innan opne, krevjande rammer og deira erfaringar med å la materiale, handling og situasjon påverke retninga i arbeidet. Samansetjinga av gruppa er gjort ut frå kunstnarskap som rommar ein performativ dimensjon, samt deira ulike tilnærmingar til materiale. Utstillinga opnar for undring knytt til dagsaktuelle tema som beredskap og overleving, ferdigheiter og materialforståing, samstundes som ho går i kjernen på vedvarande essensielle spørsmål kring det å vere menneske, kva det vil seie å vere del av fellesskap og kva det tyder å vere isolert.
Om Siri Skjerve og Toril Redalen:
Siri Skjerve (f. 1979) har i fleire år utforska hud og naturgarva skinn som kunstnarisk materiale. Ho bur og arbeider i Todalen, og driv ein praksis som hovudsakleg baserer seg på skinn frå lokal jakt. Ho har stilt ut mellom anna ved Møre og Romsdal kunstsenter, Sverresborg museum, Vestlandsutstillingen og Norske kunsthåndverkeres årsutstilling. Arbeida hennar er innkjøpte av KUBE og KODE. For tida tek Skjerve doktorgrad ved Nordmørsmusea og NTNU, og har tidlegare vore styreleiar for Norske Kunsthåndverkere. I 2025 vart ho tildelt 10-årig kunstnarstipend frå Statens Kunstnarstipend for etablerte kunstnarar.
Toril Redalen (f. 1973) er oppteken av kva som gjer eit materiale til eit materiale, og korleis det formar både historie og samtid. Leire er eit gjennomgåande materiale i hennar kunstnarskap, og arbeida hennar oppstår ofte som del av ei heilskap i syningsrommet og har sjeldan endeleg form. Ho har stilt ut mellom anna ved Nasjonalmuseet, Norske kunsthåndverkerers årsutstilling, Kunsthall Grenland og Porselenmuseet i Porsgrunn. Arbeida hennar er innkjøpte av mellom anna KUBE, KODE, Nordens Hus, GC Rieber. I 2022 vart ho tildelt 10-årig kunstnarstipend frå Statens Kunstnarstipend for etablerte kunstnarar.
Skjerve og Redalen har gjennom fleire år hatt tette samarbeid, mellom anna utstillingane Doggerland på Møre og Romsdal kunstsenter (2025), Lines Made by Walking på Format (2023) og The Art of Distant Future Earth på Norske Kunsthåndverkeres Temautstilling Ned i gruvene, opp i skyene ved Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall (2024).
Jack O’Flynn (f. 1993, IE) lagar skulpturar, video- og lydverk som saman vert intime og omsluttande installasjonar som kan minne om eigne verder der han utforskar tema knytt til økologi, fortrylling, kaos og tilfeldigheit. O’Flynn tok i 2023 mastergrad i kunst ved Fakultetet for kunst, musikk og design ved Universitetet i Bergen. Arbeida hans har vorte synte ved blant anna USF Verftet, Hordaland Kunstsenter og French St. Glasgow i Skottland.
Rita Marhaug (f. 1965, NO) arbeider ofte med installasjonar, performance, videoverk, teikning, trykk og kunstnarbøker. Særskilt kroppen i landskap, tid og oppløysing er sentrale tema i praksisen og arbeida hennar. Marhaug er utdanna på Statens høgskole for kunsthandverk og design i 1989 og har kunsthistorie frå Universitetet i Bergen i 1996. Arbeida hennar er innkjøpte av mellom andre KODE, Asker kommune, Purdue University Collection (USA) og Museet for Fotografi i Odense (DK). Ho har stilt ut mellom anna ved Kabuso, Mottaket, Grafiska Sällskapet, Galleri Langegården og Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale.
Tobias Aputsiaq Prytz (f. 1992, NO/GL) arbeider i skjeringspunktet mellom kunst og handverk. Ofte kjem dette i form av kunst laga med lokale råvarer, helst trevirke som er plukka og hogga for eiga hand. Dette vert til større installasjonar, bygg eller skulpturar. Prytz vart ferdig næming i tradisjonshandverk ved Geitbåtmuseet Husasnotra i 2023, og har ein bachelorgrad frå Kunsthøgskulen i Bergen i 2017. I praksisen hans arbeider han mykje saman med andre, og samarbeida er synt mellom anna ved Nord-Norsk Kunst Museum, Nuuk i Grønland, São Paulo Art Biennal i Brasil og Moldejazz.

I 2025 annonserte KRAFT ei open utlysing der vi inviterte kunstnarar og kuratorar som jobbar i gruppe på to eller fleire til å sende oss forslag på prosjekt for 2026. Gjennom open utlysing ynskte KRAFT å utfordre det tradisjonelle formatet for utstillingar og utforske nye former for kunstnariske samarbeid, konsept og presentasjon med materiale og kunsthandverk som utgangspunkt.
VEGGEN er det andre av tre prosjekt som spring ut av den opne utlysinga.

From 7 May until 23 August 2026, KRAFT hosts VEGGEN, an exhibition project by craft artists Siri Skjerve and Toril Redalen.
The project’s point of departure is Marlen Haushofer’s 1963 novel Veggen (The Wall), in which a woman is abruptly isolated from the world by an invisible, impenetrable wall. Within the limited confounds of her surrounding landscape she has to establish a new daily life with the necessities of labour, care, repair, and repetition becoming fundamental conditions.
In the exhibition VEGGEN, walls as physical, social, and existential structures are investigated by five different artists: Siri Skjerve, Toril Redan, as well as the invited artists Rita Marhaug, Tobias Aputsiaq Prytz, and Jack O’Flynn.
A room has been built in the exhibition space in which the artists will work and stay in particular periods during KRAFT’s opening hours. One of the walls of this room is constructed in such a way that gallery visitors can look in. The artists will work with a selection of simple materials and tools. As a kind of physical catalogue, traces, materials, and thoughts of the artists made whilst working during the exhibition period will be collected in the Vault at KRAFT. As such, the exhibition forms organically in real-time, each artist responding and relating to being alone and isolated whilst also simultaneously very much present, visible, and in close proximity to an audience.
Exhibition, production, and installation are one and the same process in the exhibition VEGGEN. The invited artists were chosen due to their ability to work in open, demanding frameworks and their experience with letting materials, actions, and situations influence the direction of their work. The constellation of the group was made with a view to practices that include a performative dimension as well as different approaches to material. The exhibition opens a space for contemplations relating to pertinent themes such as preparation and survival, skills and material understanding, whilst also going to the core of perennially essential questions regarding being human, what it means to be part of a community, and what it means to be isolated.
About Siri Skjerve and Toril Redalen:
For several years, Siri Skjerve (b. 1979) has been researching and working with skin and naturally tanned hides as artistic material. She lives and works in Todalen, and her artistic practice revolves mainly around hides obtained from local hunts. Institutions at which she has exhibited works include Møre and Romsdal Kunstsenter, Sverresborg Museum, Vestlandutstillingen (the West-Norwegian Annual Exhibition), and the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists Annual Exhibition. Her works have been acquired by KUBE and KODE. She was earlier the chairperson of the board of the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists. In 2025, she was granted the 10-year stipend for established artists from the Government Grant for Artists. Currently, Skjerve is a Ph.D. candidate at Nordmørsmusea and NTNU.
Toril Redalen (b. 1973) is focussed on what makes a material a material and how it shapes both history and the present. Clay is a recurring material in her practice and her work often becomes part of a larger whole within a visual environment and seldom has a final form. She has exhibited at institutions including the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design; the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists Annual Exhibition; Kunsthall Grenland; and the Porcelain Museum in Porsgrunn. Her work has been acquired by, amongst others, KUBE, KODE, The Nordic House, and GC Rieber. In 2022, Redalen was granted the 10-year stipend for established artists from the Government Grant for Artists.
Skjerve and Redalen have worked in close collaboration for several years, resulting in numerous exhibitions, including Doggerland at Møre og Romsdal Artcentre (2025), Lines Made by Walking at Format (2023), and The Art of Distant Future Earth at the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists annual themed-exhibition, Down in the Mines, Up in the Skies, at Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall (2024).
Jack O’Flynn (b. 1993, IE) makes sculpture, video and sound works exploring themes such as ecology, enchantment, chaos and happenstance in intimate, enveloping installations that seem to create their own worlds. O’Flynn completed his masters degree in Fine Arts at The Faculty for Art, Music and Design at the University in Bergen. His work has been exhibited venues including USF Verftet, Hordaland Kunstsenter and French St. Glasgow in Scotland.
Rita Marhaug (b. 1965, NO) works with installation, performance, video, drawing, printmaking, and artists books. Particular themes in her practice are landscape, time, and dissolution. Marhaug was educated at the National College of Art and Design, Bergen in 1989, also studying art history at the University in Bergen in 1996. Her work has been acquired by institutions including KODE, Asker municipality, Purdue University Collection (USA), and The Museum of Photography in Odense (DK). She has exhibited at, amongst others, Kabuso, Mottaket, Grafiske Sällskapet, Galleri Langegården, and Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale.
Tobias Aputsiaq Prytz (b. 1992, NO/GL) works at the point of intersection between art and craft. This often comes in the form of art made with local raw materials, preferably wood, that he gathers and chops himself. This becomes part of larger installations, buildings, or sculptures. Prytz completed a degree in traditional craft at the Geitbåtmuseum Husasnotra in 2023, and holds a bachelor degree from the Art Academy in Bergen in 2017. He often works collaboratively in his practice, this work having been exhibited at Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, Nuuk in Greenland, São Paulo Arti Biennale in Brazil, and Moldejazz, amongst others.

In 2025, KRAFT made an open call for artists and curators working in groups of two or more were invited to send us project proposals for 2026. Through this open call, KRAFT wished to challenge traditional exhibition formats and explore new forms of artistic collaboration, conception, and presentation with material and craft as a point of departure.
VEGGEN is the second of three projects culminating from this open call.
